Is natural henna safe during pregnancy?

Natural henna has been traditionally used for generations and is generally considered safe when it is 100% natural and free from chemicals.
When pregnant, extra care should be taken with the ingredients used in the henna paste. Many professional artists prefer to use henna made with mild essential oils, such as lavender, or choose low-oil blends.
A patch test is always recommended, and if you have any concerns, it’s best to consult a healthcare professional before application.

What is black henna and why is it unsafe?

Black henna is not natural henna. It often contains a chemical called PPD, which can cause severe skin reactions such as burns, blisters, and long-term scarring.
Natural henna never stains black and should always be applied safely using plant-based ingredients only.

About Jagua

Jagua is a natural gel made from the Genipa fruit, producing a dark blue-black stain similar to ink.

Henna stains brown tones, while Jagua stains blue-black. Jagua develops over 24–48 hours and lasts up to 2 weeks.

Is Jagua safe?

Natural Jagua is generally safe, but some people may be sensitive to fruit-based products. Always perform a patch test, especially if you have allergies.

How long does Jagua last on the skin?

Jagua typically lasts around 1–2 weeks on the skin, depending on skin type, placement, and aftercare.
The stain usually develops within 24–48 hours and fades naturally as the skin exfoliates.

What colour does Jagua stain?

Jagua develops into a deep blue-black or navy tone.
When first applied, it may appear very light or invisible, then gradually darkens over 24–48 hours.

Can Jagua cause an allergic reaction?

Yes, jagua can cause an allergic reaction in some people.
Over the years, we have had customers experience reactions such as redness, raised skin, or a rash where jagua has been applied. This does not mean the product contains chemicals — jagua is made from a natural fruit extract, and just like with foods such as strawberries or tomatoes, some individuals may be sensitive to it.
If a mild reaction occurs, an over-the-counter antihistamine such as Piriton (or a similar product) may help ease symptoms.
The most important step is to always carry out a patch test at least one month before full application, especially if you have sensitive skin or are using jagua for the first time.
